About Bex

Bex Hough IBCLC

Bex has over 9 years of experience and has been working with breastfeeding mothers since 2013. Of which 8 years have been supporting mothers and babies within community-based settings as a volunteer as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter. Since August 2017 Bex has been working in a paid Breastfeeding Support role in London. In November 2019 Bex started volunteering for a Breastfeeding Charity. Bex is also a mother of two boys who were breastfed with all its ups and downs (you can read the story of breastfeeding her first son here. April 2022 Bex moved to a Ward Based Location Consultant role part-time in Kent. July 2021 Bex became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

In July 2014 Bex studied a Breastfeeding Specialist Course that is LEAARC Approved (The Lactation Education Accreditation and Approval Review Committee) Receiving her Diploma in July 2018.

November 2019 Bex became an accredited Breastfeeding Counsellor and has insurance to cover all private practice.

Bex has also completed 2 day UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative training. Within 3 different NHS trusts 2022, 2021 and 2017-19

For the past three years Bex has also attended quarterly workshops as a form of supervision called Reflecting in the Art of Lactation Practice.

As from January 2021 I can also support in a clinic space in either Gravesend or Meopham. This space is Covid-19 Secure and free car parking is available on site.

I offer antenatal support and breastfeeding education before the baby is born. I have experience in preparing mothers for their breastfeeding journey when they have complications in pregnancy and they know or are preparing for induction of labour or an elective caesarean.

I have experience in working with mothers who have gestational diabetes, type 1 diabetes, preeclampsia, placenta praevia, Obstetric cholestasis (OC) also known as Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) also mothers who are preparing for Vaginal Birth After Caesarean (VBAC).

I have experience of working with first-time mothers through to mothers who have delivered their 11th baby who has all asked for my services.

I do not wish to bore you with all my qualifications and study days, but if you are anything like me you like to do your research and know the background of the person you will be working with.

My background is Early Years, I have taught in Colleges and for The Open University. I have also freelanced for a number of early years training companies.

I would also like to share with you that I do have a learning bug and I am always adding to my skills and knowledge as life is one big learning journey. I am dyslexic and learn does not come easy but I have the bug! I am a lifelong learner I am that definition!
